Your baby’s first portrait experience
Thank you for choosing my studio to capture this beautiful season of your life. I’m honored to create these memories for your family.
Welcome to the YV newborn experience
Your baby’s comfort, safety, and well-being are always my top priorities. My studio follows strict hygiene and sanitation practices, including thoroughly washing and sanitizing all wraps, fabrics, blankets, and props after every session.
If anyone in your household is feeling sick or unwell, please contact me to reschedule your session. Because of the nature of newborn sessions and to maintain a calm environment, only two adults are permitted during the session unless otherwise discussed in advance..
Your Baby’s safety comes first
Newborn safety is at the heart of everything I do. I continue my education yearly through specialized newborn safety training and hands-on experience to ensure your baby is always handled with the utmost care during every session.
All posing is baby-led, meaning your baby’s comfort and natural cues will guide the session. Certain poses may not be possible depending on baby’s flexibility, mood, age, or comfort level, and safety will always come before any pose or image.
Because I believe in fully baby-led sessions: Feedings are never rushed or denied, Comfort always comes first. Breaks are welcomed whenever needed. If bottle feeding, please bring extra bottles. Moms are also welcome to pump or nurse during the session for comfort and feeding breaks. I also recommend avoiding introducing new formulas, products, or routines 24–48 hours before the session whenever possible. For your convenience, wipes, spare diapers, and pacifiers are available at the studio if needed.
Session checklist
Please bring:
Loose-fitting pajamas for baby
Pacifier (even if baby does not normally use one)
Spare diapers
Baby blanket
Extra bottles if bottle feeding
Any sentimental keepsakes or special items
Even if your baby does not regularly use a pacifier, I highly recommend bringing one. The sucking reflex can be incredibly soothing during transitions and posing.
The calmer and more relaxed you feel, the calmer your baby will usually feel as well.
Frequently asked questions
Is it too late to schedule a newborn session?
It is never too late. While sleepy curled poses are most common within the first two weeks, beautiful newborn images can still be captured after that stage with adjusted posing and expectations.
What if my baby doesn’t sleep?
Some babies sleep deeply, while others stay awake most of the session — and both are completely normal. Awake newborn portraits can be incredibly beautiful and expressive.
What if my baby cries?
Babies cry, feed, stretch, and need comfort — that is completely expected during newborn sessions. I work patiently and calmly using soothing techniques learned through years of experience photographing newborns.
What if my baby is very fussy?
Every baby is different. I will always do my best to create beautiful images while working within your baby’s comfort level. If needed, we will pause, soothe, feed, or adjust the session accordingly.
Can parents or siblings be included?
Yes. Parent and sibling portraits may be added for an additional fee unless included in your selected package.
Is retouching included?
Yes. Standard retouching such as baby acne, flaky skin, scratches, and minor skin adjustments are included. More advanced edits such as head swaps, object removal, or major image manipulation may require an additional retouching fee.
When will I receive my images?
Within 5–7 business days after your session, you will receive your proofing gallery via email where you can select the images included in your package.
Proofing galleries are for viewing and image selection purposes only and may not be downloaded, shared, or printed.
Final edited images are delivered within the turnaround time stated in your agreement after your selections are submitted.
What if my baby still has the umbilical cord attached?
That is completely normal. Many newborns still have their cord attached during their session. I pose and wrap babies carefully to protect the area and ensure baby remains comfortable throughout the session.
What to expect
Scheduling your session
Newborn sessions are ideally scheduled during pregnancy to guarantee availability, but I do accommodate last-minute bookings whenever possible. The ideal age for sleepy, curled newborn poses is typically between 8–14 days old. However, newborn sessions can still be beautifully achieved up to 6 weeks of age with adjusted expectations and gentle posing techniques. As babies grow, they naturally become more alert, stretch more often, and may not comfortably curl into womb-like poses. Every baby is different, and beautiful images are possible at every stage.
Inspiration & Styling
Before your session, I encourage you to share inspiration images you love. You may reference images from my portfolio , You are also welcome to share inspiration from other photographers or platforms. Please keep in mind that while I have a large collection of wraps, fabrics, props, and newborn accessories, certain specialty items or custom looks may not always be available. If you are hoping for a specific prop, outfit, color palette, or theme, please ask in advance.
Session Day Preparation
Newborn sessions typically last between 2–3 hours to allow time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and comforting your baby as needed. I recommend feeding your baby shortly before arriving to the studio. A full baby is usually more relaxed and sleepy during the session. However, babies will always be babies, and some may need additional feeding breaks throughout the session. Please do not try to keep your baby awake before the session. A well-rested baby is often much calmer during posing.
